Lifeguard Training/CPR

 AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Course Description: The Lifeguarding course includes all of the skills and knowledge material needed to work as a lifeguard at traditional pools.  On the first day of the course, you must pass the water skills test shown below in order to continue in the class.  You will be certified in Lifeguarding/First Aid (3 years) and CPR/AED Professional Rescuer (1 year) if you attend all course sessions, participate fully, and pass all physical tests and evaluations with a grade of at least 80%.

Registration Instructions:  Space is limited and registration will be on a first come first served basis so register early.  Course fee is $400, checks made out to Empire.  A registration form and waiver for each participant should be sent via email to swimschool@empireswimming.com , or via mail to: Empire Swimming, 45 Montross Street, White Plains, NY  10603.  Class handbook can be downloaded free at http://www.editiondigital.net/publication/?i=95090 and must be brought to class.

Prerequisites:  (Prerequisite water testing takes place on the first day of classes.)

  • Swim 500 yards continuously using these strokes in the following order:  200 yards front crawl using rhythmic breathing and a stabilizing propellant kick; (rhythmic breathing may be performed either by breathing to the side or to the front.); 100 yards breaststroke; last 200 yards may be a mixture of front crawl with rhythmic breathing or breaststroke. 
  • Swim 20 yards by front crawl or breaststroke.  Dive to a depth of 7 to 10 feet and recover a 10 pound object.  Return the object to the surface and swim 20 yards back to the starting point.  When returning to the starting point, the candidate must hold the 10 pound object with both hands and keep his or her face above the water.
  • Age at least 15 years old by the last day of classes.

RED CROSS LIFEGUARD RECERTIFICATION CHALLENGE

Course Description: A Lifeguard Challenge course is a test of the skills taught in the Lifeguard Training course.  Students will demonstrate skills and take a written test to prove competency in the listed areas.  No instructor assistance or materials will be provided with this course, students will need to bring materials and study in advance.  This course is open to anyone with a current Lifeguarding/First Aid certification or a certification that has expired by no more than 12 months.  This course will also include challenge tests for CPR for the Professional Rescuer, as well as First Aid. 

Registration Instructions:  Space is limited and registration will be on a first come first served basis so register early.  Course fee is $200, checks made out to Empire.  A registration form and waiver for each participant should be sent via email to swimschool@empireswimming.com , or via mail to: Empire Aquatics, 45 Montross Street, White Plains, NY  10603.  Class handbook can be downloaded free at http://www.editiondigital.net/publication/?i=95090 and must be brought to class with pocket mask. If you do not have a pocket mask, you can purchase one from class instructor for $10.

CPR FOR THE PROFESSIONAL RESCUER REVIEW


Course Description
:
This course is designed for Lifeguards that have a current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certificate. Please note that this is a review course and you must bring a current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certificate, pocket mask, and your Lifeguard or CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer workbook to class.  Class handbook is available for freen download online at: http://editiondigital.net/publication/?i=66319. If you do not have a pocket mask, you can purchase one from class instructor for $10. CPR/AED certificate is valid for 2 years; 1 year for Lifeguards.

Registration Instructions:  Space is limited and registration will be on a first come first served basis so register early.  Course fee is $75, checks made out to Empire.  A registration form and waiver for each participant should be sent via email to swimschool@empireswimming.com , or via mail to: Empire Swimming, 45 Montross Street, White Plains, NY  10603.
